Building a PC

(1/2) > >>

Monty:
This laptop isn't quite doing it for me, so I'm looking into building a PC.
My build on PC Part Picker.
I understand how to build PCs, but know next to nothing about brands, performance, or Vendors so any feedback or recommendations would be fantastic.

Any ideas? (The wireless adapter bit is still up in the air, can be removed without issue.)
My budget is around $1,300 but I would prefer to keep it lower if possible. (Need money to eat sometimes, blahblahblah)

duder:
Check our reddit.com/r/buildapc...  they have all sorts of builds on the side bar based on price and performance.

One thing I might recommend is going with ivy bridge instead of sandy bridge... I can pit together a build for you a little bit later, if you like.

extine:
Ivy bridge is da new one? I might need to upgrade upgrade comin up in a bit too.

Monty:
Changed CPU to Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor.
Most sites state Ivy Bridge is incompatible with most mobos, so it's been upgraded to Gigabyte GA-Z77MX-D3H Micro ATX LGA1155 Motherboard

Still a bit under $1.3k

Here you go dude... these are the parts I'd recommend for a system that will last you a good 3-5 years.  You can drop down in SSD size if you want, but I'm running a 120 on my desktop and it seems good - I have a 60 on my laptop and it's damn new full and I'm constantly clearing stuff off it - even w/ a 750GB data drive.  I'd also recommend a WD Black as your secondary drive (that's what I run) but that Seagate should work ok.  Definitely do a 1TB drive, though, and do a 3.5" drive - not sure why you did that 2.5", you pay more for less storage.

Regarding the video card, NEVER guy last gen... you're not saving a lot of money vs. buying current gen and it's basically already out of date... better to put that money into a current-gen card than be immediately out of date.

You can drop down to 8GB of memory - but why?  RAM is still cheap, get as much as you can.

If you can't tell, I'm a BIG Corsair fan, same with Gigabyte.  I work with tech ALL DAY and these are the two brands I really trust right now.  I would pay a little more for their stuff versus saving some money up front, as I know my chances of getting a long-lasting product are very high.

Oh, also - I left off the monitor, keyboard and OS... that's up to you.  If you're in school, or have a school ID, you can get Windows OS's super cheap at most campus bookstores... you can also get them via other means, but that's your call.

Finally, get the 2GB version of that video card, not sure why it didn't select that one.
